Kate Middleton series: makeup

Saturday, February 1, 2014

Kate Middleton has taken iconic beauty to a entirely new level. Her hair, her clothes, and her makeup are always flawless; emulating her seems to have become a national hobby. In this 3 part series, I will do my best Kate impression: makeup, hair, and lastly, clothing.

Kate definitely has a signature look: a focus on the eyes (always with lots of black eyeliner), medium dusty-pink cheeks, and neutral glossy lips. I started off with MUFE HD foundation applied with Real Techniques buffing brush and concealed with MUFE Full Cover concealer. I then set the face makeup with Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder in Dim Light to give my skin a regal glow. Kate's skin is never fully matte, so this gives the skin back some light. Kate's brows are much darker and straighter than mine, so I changed my brow shape with Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ebony making them straight with little-to-no arch. I then filled them in with Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brunette, focusing the darker color at the beginning of the brow. For blush, I used Mac Desert Rose applied heavily, since Kate always has a very obvious flush. I then took the Elf Shimmering Facial Whip highlighter and tapped this onto my cheeks and cheekbones to give them a glow. Next, I swept some matte bronzer around the perimeter of my face. For eyes, I used my Dior Eyeshadow Quad in Greige. Kate usually uses neutral taupe colors, with a middle toned taupe or brown in the crease. Kate applies black eyeliner pretty heavy, so I used my Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in black with a slanted brush to line all the way around the eye. I did not smoke it out at all, since Kate is very precise with her eye makeup. I then added a few coats of mascara (Revlon Lash Potion) and Revlon Balm Stain in Honey topped off with a pink gloss for the lips. Viola, duchess status!

This isn't makeup I would normally do at all, but it was funny how many compliments I got. I honestly got complimented on my makeup by total strangers like three times! I think this look is noticeable because the eyes are so dark and striking. I usually smoke out my eye makeup to make the look subtle, but Kate goes all out with precise black eyeliner. I will definitely be trying this again in the future!

Are there any celebrity inspired tutorials you would like to see next? I have a few that I am already working on. Keep an eye out for Part 2 and 3 of my Kate series Monday and Wednesday of this week.

  1. I know you said this isn't a look you would normally do, but it's my favorite look I've seen on you! It gives you a great glow. I'm going to have to buy the blush and the balm stain, those colors are lovely. :)
