One Step Eyes: Estee Lauder Blackened Olive Eye Kohl

Friday, October 11, 2013

Some days I don't want to mess with fancy eye makeup. I can't be bothered to break out the eyeshadows, gel liner, liquid liner, etc. Days like this are what kohls are for. Kohl eye pencils are much creamier and easily blended than waterproof/smudgeproof pencils. The idea is that they smudge easily, making a simple smokey eye so easy. I used Estee Lauder's eye kohl pencil in Blackened Olive, a brown-olive color. After lining the upper lash line and lower lash line, I simply smudged the whole thing with my finger. One downside is the staying power. Don't expect this look to last all day. Kohls are notorious for disappearing (especially if you have oily lids like mine). One way to get more wear out of this look is to run over the whole lid with a translucent setting powder. (I used MUFE HD translucent powder with a small eye brush) I finished the whole look off with my holy grail mascara: Loreal Voluminous in dark brown.

Do you have a favorite kohl pencil? I also love Mac Teddy: a bronze-brown.

  1. I love that you mentioned the "Holy Grail" mascara! It is so true! Have you tried Benefit's They're Real? It is my new favorite!

  2. Yeah! I love the curl and length with that one! Especially the ball spikes on the end of the wand for getting the outer corner lashes. Genius! I always seem to go back to volumizing formulas though!
